| Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) |
This is to notify you that a case of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has occurred in our child care.
Symptoms:Symptoms to look for in your child include a bump or infected area of the skin that may be red, swollen, painful, warm to the touch, full of pus or other drainage. These skin infections commonly occur at sites of a visible skin trauma such as cuts and abrasions or areas of the body covered by hair. Most infections are accompanied by a fever. Actions: If you or someone in your family experiences these signs and symptoms, cover the area with a bandage and contact your healthcare professional. Treatment most often involves draining the wound and culturing the bacteria to determine what treatment will be most effective. Antibiotics are not always needed. Parents should inform the child care provider if their child has a skin infection. A child with MRSA does not need to be excluded from daycare. No physical contact with other children should be allowed until wound is healed and proper handwashing techniques should be followed. Thank you for your support. By working together we can keep all our children healthy. Find out more information about MRSA at the Centers for Disease Control at Centers for Disease Control at http://www.cdc.gov/health/ |
