Join other child care professionals for the annual Ramsey/Washington Conference in Maplewood. It promises to be a wonderful day of fun and learning.

KEYNOTE

Valentines that Last a Lifetime
Respect, Responsibility, Reverence

Ada believes that your child care provides a sense of community for the children you care for and for their parents too. Values, sense of self, decision making and coping skills are but a few of the life lessons learned. Understanding and expecting respect, having a sense of responsibility, and an internal awareness of belonging are key building blocks for a child’s self esteem. What a great opportunity you have as a family child care provider, because these messages will resonate throughout a child’s life journey. These are valentines that endure.

Come join Ada at this conference and you too will laugh, cry and be inspired about the Valentines you give to the children that will last a lifetime.

Ada Alden is the author of the book Parenting on Purpose: Red Yellow Green, Framework for Respectful Discipline. She has been working with parents for thirty years, holds advanced degrees in education and behavior analysis, and is a nationally certified family life educator. She is an adjunct professor in family studies at the University of Minnesota and St. Cloud State University and is the former Director of Family Ed Service for Eden Prairie Public Schools.

10:00 - 11:15 AM Workshops

A. Contracts and Policies – When your contract and policies are clear, your parents are happy to follow them and you have less trouble enforcing them. This class will take you through the nitty gritty of creating clear and concise policies that will make your days and your day care run more smoothly. Karen Bradley presenter, is a former teacher and coach, with 14 years of experience as a day care provider and considers herself the “happiest day care provider in Eagan”. Come to Karen’s class to “Get Happy”.

B. More, More, More - The Over Indulged Child - We all love to indulge our kids but when does indulgence become over indulgence? Does your child want more, more, more? Learn how the overindulged child can lack daily life skills and have an inability to relate to others. Learn to recognize the symptoms and how to get you and your child on the right track again. Presented by Barbara Wagner, PCI Area Coordinator and 2003 Provider of the Year.

C. Lots and Lots of Language - Explore with Pam Bohm, an Early Childhood Services Coordinator and experienced trainer, the many activities that encourage young children’s language development. Bring meaningful language experiences into your environment through fun story times, songs and other activities designed to promote language use and development.

D. Holiday Crafts and Snacks - Enhance your holidays with fun, easy crafts and snack ideas. Paulette Pelletier, PCI Area Coordinator and experienced trainer will present lots of ideas to make the holidays not only more fun but less stressful throughout the year.

E. Enabling Our Children To Succeed - Have you ever gotten tired of telling your children no? In this workshop Carol Nusbaum, Director of Field Operations for Providers Choice, Inc., will share techniques to get children involved in problem solving and decision making so they can make their own discoveries about whether or not they may be able to reach their goals. We will explore parenting options, appropriate messages to give children and the importance of offering age appropriate choices. We’ll also share a technique for involving your own children in your day care setting.

F. Cent$ible Meals – The cost of food has risen sharply in the past year putting a pinch in many budgets. This workshop, presented by Margy Johansen-Kong, PCI Area Coordinator will share tips and meal ideas which can help participants get more ‘bang for their buck’ while providing healthful, satisfying meals. This workshop fulfills the annual training requirements for CACFP participants.

G. Celebrate You - Does your self esteem need a shot in the arm? Come and get a pat on the back, and some ideas for how to do the “balancing act”, as we explore the wonderful world of child care and how great you are at it. This class is presented by Lynnrae Francis-Fors, LPN and 1990 PCI Provider of the Year.

H. Surrounding Your Children: Early Care Environments - We are all affected by our environment. Our physical surroundings affect how we feel, how comfortable we are, how we relate to others, and how successfully we accomplish what we set out to do. For young children, the environment is particularly important. The size, colors, lighting, furniture, and arrangement of your environment all influence how children learn. Planning your environment will support the goals that you have for your business and the children in your care. Presented by Tammy Wachter, owner / operator of Kidsville Family Child Care and 2006 PCI Provider of the Year.
